Jesus said,

“No prophet is accepted in his own village;

no physician heals those who know him.”

Mark 6:4

“A prophet never lacks honour

except in his home town,

among his relations

and his own family.”

Matthew 13:57

“A prophet never lacks honour,

except in his home town

and in his own family.”

Luke 4:24

“Truly I tell you,

no prophet is recognized in his own country.”

John 4:44

“a prophet is without honour in his own country”

In both Mark and Matthew

this saying goes against family,

a familiar theme in Thomas.

Those who know you well enough

to have smelled your farts

will have a hard time believing

there is anything extraordinary

about your insights or abilities.
